About UppercAse - Crafting Nostalgic Art with Bijou Flair

Artistry Rooted in Print History and Creativity

Our Story and Creative Mission

UppercAse was born from a passion to celebrate the bygone era of letterpress printing by breathing new life into vintage trays. Our mission is to craft imaginative artworks that combine nostalgia with curated collectible objects, creating vibrant decor pieces that evoke curiosity and connect generations through artistic expression.

Barbara Paganin at Palazzo Fortuny - my inspiration!

in 2014 I made a visit to the gallery at Palazzo Fortuny in Venice and was blown away by barbara paganins concept work of Her Gioielli racconti- jewel stories-

her approach had a huge impact on me.  each piece a miniature work of art and each small component carrying its own meaning, telling a different story to each observer.  i fell in love with the imagery and it has since influenced my own work. I am interested in how something so small can shift perspective but still hold immense emotion and significance. By assembling into one complete piece i aim to create a sense of continuity where each part contributes, not just as an object but an experience that unfolds gradually.

Down to the nitty gritty!

After sourcing letterpress trays..................

Printing trays are assessed, and wherever possible kept in their original state. Damaged items are cut down and made into smaller pieces. All are treated for woodworm, cleaned and sanded before either staining, painting or left natural depending on the look I require.

Meet the Team!
I work closely with Mike Ellis, from nearby thorpe arch, a talented wood carver who reconfigures and finishes unsuitable trays into smaller pieces.
Sylvia, a talented potter and artist, is my go-to for advice regarding   ceramics, glazing and fine painting.
